2006 Bianchi Virata

Prepare to be passed by yet another aqua colored missile on your favorite downhill run, or up the incline if you're so, er, inclined. Bianchi's Virata is again a lean machine dripping with the Italian components you need.

Another solid entry in the mid to high end road market from Bianchi, and we're pleased to see the front fork gradient paint-job has been axed for 2006.

What Bianchi say:

“We couldn't make enough of them in 2004, after the magazines discovered how fun it is to ride something truly different.”

Indeed we are looking a bike that tips the scales (in 55cm form) at 8.6kg, although just how different that is from their competitors is a matter of opinion.

Not that we doubt your ability to pick a 180g difference on a long ascent, mind you. Certainly not.

Full Ultegra groupset with a Mavic Ksyrium Equipe wheelset hanging off a carbon rear triangle and forks gives us a little taste of Italian cielo - naturally at a price to match.

“I finally decided to get a road bike that allows me to spin my legs rather than labor with my OLD, heavy touring bike. Wow, what a nice bike the Virata is!
I've only had it a month, riding it between rain storms. I'm very pleased with its handling and still getting used to its capabilities. Its 19.1 lbs. of steel/carbon really accelerates! The SRAM components function well. The celeste color ... what can I say?
I'm not crazy about the saddle - but overall, I feel this is a fine bike for the money.”
