2006 Bianchi Brava
You rarely see a road bike with a suspension seat post these days, and Bianchi is certainly to be commended for offering an entry level road bike that doesn't pretend to be something it's not.
A classic steel frame holds this package together, with a Tiagra groupset and even room for fenders - no doubt a useful addition where a bike like this will spend most of it's time: Commuting.

Bianchi says:
“Don't let anyone tell you one kind of bike, for one kind or riding, made from one kind of material, is best. Try aluminum and try steel. Try carbon and try plutonium.”
They'd probably like you to come back to steel, though, because otherwise the Brava won't be on your shopping list. We'll grant that plutonium would make for an interesting ride, though.
An entry level bike at an entry level price, hopefully having bikes like this on the market will attract more beginner riders to the sport.
