    Are you even allowed to legally get on the 405 freeway like that?

    Getting on interstate freeways on a bicycle is illegal. There are a few exceptions when there is no alternative (going through Camp Pendleton area, you can get on I-5). Don't go on 405; find surface streets to go West and go up Hwy-1 to Ventura--not only is it legal, it is a lot prettier and less stressful than riding in heavy, fast traffic.
